Who We Are
Second Chance for Animals is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization devoted to enhancing the lives, adoption rates, and experiences of animals living in Shelters. We currently partner with the Franklin Township Animal Shelter in Somerset County, New Jersey.
To prevent cruelty to animals by facilitating the adoption of homeless animals through community outreach, educational programs, participation in adoption days, and by improving conditions in animal shelters and pounds and by supporting animal health initiatives such as spay/neuter and vaccination programs.
History
The Franklin Township Animal Shelter was established more than 30 years ago. In 1998, Lynn Lawson petitioned Franklin Township to allow a volunteer group to assist at the Animal Shelter. Her success led to the creation of Second Chance for Animals, Inc. in July 1998. Initially the group started with a handful of volunteers and has now grown to more than 150 volunteers.
