In addition, the funds are used to pay for spay/neuter,
food, medicine, etc. for the animals. The Fundraising committee
is involved in several projects including:
- Shake a can (soliciting donations outside local stores)
- Gertrude Hawk Candy Sales
- Entertainment Discount Books
- Collection Cans (placing canisters in local stores)
- Gift Wrapping at Bookstores During the Holiday Season
- IGive.com (register under SCFA and IGive will donate
$ to SCFA each time you buy through them)
- Ebay.com (we sell any items you wish to donate)
- Grants/Corporate Matches (does your employer have a
corporate matching program for charities to which their
employees belong? If so, let us know!)

Animal Enrichment
Team Leader: Nora
Meetings: 2nd Friday of every month
|
This committee discusses ways to enrich
the lives of animals at the shelter. Issues include spay/neuter,
socializing feral cats, training shelter dogs to help make
them more "adoptable", and ways to keep all of
the animals in the spotlight. The committee also hosts time
at the shelter every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 applying
socialization techniques to this select group of shelter
residents.

|
Outreach
Team Leader: Sandy
|
The goal of the Outreach committee is to reach the greatest number
of people possible to inform them of the shelter's existence and
services offered there, as well as to publicize various fundraising
and special events (ex., the adopt-a-thon). This is accomplished
through various types of media such as: newspaper articles and
ads, TV, radio (participation in "The Pet House" program
on WCTC), printing of brochures and the SCFA website. The committee
also deals with educating the public through speaking engagements.
Volunteers visit schools and community groups to get the message
out about the plight of the shelter animals and help raise awareness
about animal-related issues.
In addition, this committee writes and publishes "PAWPRINTS",
the official newsletter of SCFA, on a bimonthly basis. The
publication keeps all volunteers informed of upcoming events
and policy changes, and it contains educational and humorous
articles as well. PAWPRINTS is also distributed locally
to make people aware of the shelter's existence and volunteer
opportunities.

Technology
Team Leader: Marianne
|
The
mission of the Technology committee is to enhance communication
within the organization and with the public through web and
other technologies, and to support the other SCFA committees,
when technology is required, in achieving their goals. In
addition to developing and maintaining the SCFA website, the
Technology team has worked on on a multitude of other projects
that require technical skills. The team is always thinking
of new ways to utilize technology to help the organization
and its members! |
|
Team Leaders
Team Leader: Chuck
|
This
committee's task is to train all team leaders and keep them
informed of any issues or new policies related to being a
team leader. A team leader's main responsibilities are to
screen potential adopters and to ensure that animals are going
to good, permanent homes. Leaders are also responsible for
coordinating adoption days at the shelter and PetSmart which
requires an understanding of the adoption procedure/policies
and all that's involved in setup and cleanup for the day.
Leaders are always needed, so please contact Chuck if you
wish to volunteer! |
