Who We Are

Second Chance for Animals is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization devoted to enhancing the lives, adoption rates, and experiences of animals living in Shelters. We currently partner with the Franklin Township Animal Shelter in Somerset County, New Jersey.

History

The Franklin Township Animal Shelter was established more than 30 years ago. In 1998, Lyn Lawson petitioned Franklin Township to allow a volunteer group to assist at the Shelter. She was successful and in July, 1998, Second Chance for Animals, Inc. was created and held its first meeting. The group has continued to expand ever since.

How We Help

Second Chance for Animals provides the Franklin Township Animal Shelter with financial assistance and volunteers. Our fundraising allows us to pay for many expenses, including but not limited to:

  • Spay and neuter of all Franklin Township Animal Shelter dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and rabbits prior to adoption
  • Microchips and microchip registration for all dogs, cats, kittens and puppies
  • Emergency veterinary care for Franklin Township animals
  • Senior dog veterinary care, including dental and blood work
  • Pet food including kitten formula
  • Cat litter

Second Chance for Animals volunteers also assist directly with animals at the Franklin Township Animal Shelter and take animals to adoption events. For more information about volunteering, please check out our Volunteer section.

Our Mission Statement

To prevent cruelty to animals by facilitating the adoption of homeless animals through community outreach, educational programs, participation in adoption days, and by improving conditions in animal shelters and pounds and by supporting animal health initiatives such as spay/neuter and vaccination programs
